Stepping on to the 40th year has never been better for Douglas Memorial Higher Secondary School. The celebration of the Ruby Jubilee got even more special when ABP ANANDA bestowed the Rector of the school, Mr. Wilson Gidla with an award “ Leading International School in North Kolkata” on 27th June,2024 at Swabhumi, Kolkata. The event was a star studded one. The Education Minister, Bratya Basu graced the occasion with this esteemed presence. Mr. Sujit Kumar Bose, Ex Vice Chancellor of Viswa Bharati University, and Mr. Anindya Chatterjee , film director and lead singer of Bengali Band Chandrabindoo presented the prestigious award to our dear Rector Sir, Mr. Wilson Gidla. It was high time that the school got recognised for all it has given to the community for the last 39 years. Our school is widely known for its academic excellence, co- curricular achievements, and social contributions through charitable initiatives. The school was founded by Rev. Dr. G.V. Prasada Rao and his wife Mrs. Suseela Rao and their legacy of leadership, their vision of educating children from various rungs of society and powerful ministry are being continued and taken forward by Mr. Wilson Gidla and his team of able and efficient educators/ leaders. We are proud and happy to announce that being one of the top schools in Kolkata, we are going International. Douglas Memorial Higher Secondary School Barrackpore is now a Cambridge Early Years Centre. The little kids of our school will receive the best of education at an International standard with global exposure providing the best pre-primary education in India. The Cambridge Early Years Programme will begin in the coming session of 2022-23 to meet the needs of young learners. Cambridge Early Years takes a holistic and balanced approach that focuses on physical, cognitive, language and communication and social and emotional development. The programme also offers engaging classroom resources, and a range of assessment approaches to measure the learners’ progress.
The school feels delighted to announce the Official Membership of our institution with the Global Schools Alliance. We are the first school in the entire vicinity of Barrackpore to achieve such a milestone, lining up among the best ICSE schools in India. The Management and the teaching faculty worked hand in hand to prepare the Global students through International exposure multiple times. We are glad to receive theBronze Global School Award.
In the month of March, our school was featured in ‘The Economic Times’ for being honoured with ‘The Best School in Barrackpore’ award at the Times of Business Awards 2020. We owe a lot to the students for their exceptional contribution, the teachers for their remarkable work, the parents and the entire school management for their immense love and support which helped us scale great heights.
The school won the “Best School” prize under the category of Best educational institute presented by Swachhta Hi Sewa (SHS) in the year 2017, ranking itself among the top primary schools in Kolkata.
The school had received the honour of awards in 7 categories at the prestigious 26th
edition of Telegraph School Awards on 26th October ,2021. The Telegraph School Award
rightly acknowledges and recognizes the schools who have contributed massively in the
