Rev. Dr. G. V. Prasada Rao
Founder
23rd Jan. 1930 – 28th Sept. 1992
The joy of Samuel Paulas Gidla and Ananthama Gidla knew no bounds when, in the humble village of Yelswaram, Andhra Pradesh, they welcomed their fourth child—a child destined to touch countless lives. From his early years, Rev. Dr. G. V. Prasada Rao was guided by deep compassion and a relentless commitment to uplift the underprivileged. He dreamt of a society where education would be the true equalizer, and he spent his life making that vision a reality.
His remarkable journey led to the establishment of inclusive educational institutions that transcended linguistic and social boundaries, offering instruction in Telugu, Oriya, Bengali, and English throughout West Bengal. In 1984, his boldest vision came to life with the founding of Douglas Memorial Higher Secondary School, nestled in the heart of Barrackpore. Today, DMHSS stands tall as the best school in Barrackpore, a proud symbol of Achieving Excellence for All.
Dr. Rao’s mission was not limited to academics—it was a life of unwavering service to the poor, the sick, and the voiceless. His legacy of kindness, leadership, and vision continues to inspire generations of Douglasites, who carry forward his values of compassion, character, and service.
In 1998, the school gained further distinction with the Government of West Bengal's NoC and CISCE affiliation, solidifying its place among the finest institutions not only in North Kolkata but across the state. Today, DMHSS continues to break barriers and offer quality education to all, regardless of caste, creed, religion, or language.
As we walk the path he paved, may the spirit of Barrackpore’s visionary educator guide us forward. Rev. Dr. G. V. Prasada Rao's legacy lives on—in every classroom, every student, and every act of learning that lights the way for a brighter, more equitable tomorrow.
