About Us

Operation Hope Kolkata is a youth-led non profitable organization founded by Mr Ashwin Kumar Medidi, the administrator of Douglas Memorial Higher Secondary School in the year 2016. The vision behind his initiative were the morals and principles of his mother Mrs Alka Medidi, who constantly encouraged him to serve humanity. It was her teachings that taught him the virtue of helping society. He was also inspired by the Founder of the school, Reverend G.V.Prasad Rao, who was a source of hope to many helpless.

Mission

Operation Hope with the ‘young minds’ of society aims to
alleviate the sufferings of the downtrodden and less fortunate people
by reaching out to them.It brings together the change-makers of tomorrow
under one umbrella, it creates a platform for the youth to become
empowered and empathetic towards society.

Collaborations

➤  Operation Hope Kolkata, in the pasts several years has collaborated
with organizations like Katakhali Swapnopuron Welfare Society and
24th Ashoka Bharat Scouts and Guides to serve aid at the island of Sundarbans affected by the YAAS Cyclone in the month of May 2021.

➤  We have performed several collaborative projects with Antaheen, ICCHE, SNG, and Seva Dharma Foundation to help the ones in need around North Kolkata

➤  A blood donation camp was organized by the organization in
collaboration with Project Life Force in the month of May 2021, where 37 units of blood were collected through which lives of 101 lives was saved.

➤ The organization sent 100kgs rice with 30kgs of onions and potatoes to Divine Hope Ministry.

➤ In past months, 225kg rice 160kg dal, and 150kg onions and potatoes
were given to the Red Volunteers.

➤ The organization has even collaborated with one of the most active blood donation campaigns in Kolkata, Project Life Force (PLF)

➤ Operation Hope Kolkata even collaborated with Gayatri Pariwar, a National
Awardee NGO plants trees across the map of India.

Projects

Founder’s Day

➤ In 2018, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the founder of
the school, 200 homeless people were served meals and given
blankets.

➤ In 2019, it promoted a campaign against abuse and brutality
towards animals.

➤ In 2020, the organization generously donated an amount of ₹ 25,000 to the ‘Chaya Foundation’ and ₹ 15,000 to Mitali Das, an animal
lover, who feeds street dogs every weekend. Even a grove of 50 trees
at Sundarbans National Park was planted on the same day.

Box of Joy

Every year in December, the youth under
the organization distributes 500 “Box of Joy” and woollen clothes with
blankets to needy kids belonging to several homes to cherish the
season. The box contains belongings from clothes to candies and
toffees. In the same month to keep the spirit of Christmas alive, orphanages are gifted stationaries, cricket kits, footballs and
badminton sets.

Meal Drive

➤ A Local five-day meal drive took place under the banner of
Operation Hope in several areas like Khardah and Barrackpore to feed
around 100 needy locals.

➤ The organization is also currently serving the Rickshaw Pullers a meal
of the day, two times a week consistently.

Quarantine Aid (Covid-19)

➤ Last year during the first wave of Covid-19 around 4,500 families was
sent help from the organization’s end to areas around Barrackpore and
Sundarbans.

➤ Near about 2250 families of Authpur, Ichapore and Palta & Shyamnagar
benefitted from the benevolent activities of Operation Hope during
this combined crisis period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

➤ It also tried to put a smile on the faces of the labourers of the
brick-making industry (Ichapore), by providing them with rice, pulses, vegetables, and distributing books, stationery, food packets to the
children.

Cyclone Relief (AMPHAN)

Operation hope sprang into action to help the Amphan affected
victims, in May and June 2020, by distributing 500kgs
of rice, 200kgs of pulses, and 200 litres of oil, in collaboration with
Mr Amit Rajak, a social worker.

Cyclone Relief (YAAS)

During the Post-YAAS cyclone effect period, 1,130 families suffering from a crisis in the interiors of Sundarbans and Medinipur were sent “Hope Bags”. Each bag contained ingredients like puffed and flat rice,
medicines, water bottles, biscuits, oil, 2kgs of onions and potatoes, sanitary pads, and diapers.

Other Projects

➤ The youth of the organization has also initiated the “Blessed Drive”. In which they feed a day meal to less-fortunate ones on an
individual’s birthday.

➤ The organization sent Rs25, 000 to a 2-year-old little Vedika’s family
who was suffering from SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).

➤ Rs15, 000 as a token of hope was sent to baby Triyan who was
struggling with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

➤ As anonymous heroes, the organization sends essential groceries
materials and sets of stationaries to several families who are
financially unstable.

➤ Adivasi Toposhili Protibondhi Welfare association was helped by
Operation Hope, which liberally donated provisions for their cause.
