Laboratories are the epicenters of exploring, probing and experimenting to find the truth of life, to solve problems, to
fend off madness and chaos which results out of ignorance and preconceived notions. Douglas Memorial Higher Secondary School boasts of having well equipped laboratories with full safety measures and necessary apparatus to conduct full-fledged experiments pertaining to Physics, Chemistry and Biology from class IX onwards. It is here that concepts come to life as students indulge in applying and practicing the theories learn in the classroom. In addition to this the School also has a Computer lab and a Robotics lab, where pupils are able to access and learn latest software and program physical robots under the guidance of efficient and trained teachers.
Properly ventilated and spacious Physics lab of the School has all modern sets of equipment’s to reinforce scientific and experimental concepts and facilitate in developing investigative skills. Teachers and lab assistants are always there to guide students to learn the subject hands on through interesting experiments and practical lessons.
The Chemistry lab has been designed while keeping with the statutory norms and safety standards. Attention is paid in developing scientific attitude in students along with the ability to analyze, collate, compute, integrate and deduce. With ample space and scope for work, Douglasites enjoy every step of appreciating and comprehending Science.
This is the place where the students are get a chance to ‘discover’ the detailed facts of existence all by themselves instead of being ‘told’ about them. Here children have the liberty of making models and carrying on projects under the supervision of the teachers, by availing lab facilities. Attention is paid on not overcrowding the lab and helping students to make the best use of lab hours.
The Computer lab of the School provides an inclusive structured learning environment where students are prepared for a tech-heavy future. They develop digital literacy in tandem with ICSE and ISC curriculum. Trained teachers also guide students to develop technological skills which are required in day-to-day life.
The Robotics lab combines the creativity and curiosity of students with the hands on aspects of Science & Technology. With focus on robot building and Science based activities, the learning methodology takes up innovative and challenging ideas and converts them into solutions in the form of working robots or engaging science experiments. Students of classes II to VIII thoroughly enjoy these experiments under the guidance of expert teachers.
“The library is an arena of possibility, opening both a window into the soul and a door into the world”-Rita Frances Dove.
A library is fundamental to the teaching and learning developments of a child. The school library at DMHSS promotes curiosity, innovation, and critical thinking in every student. It endorses desirable study habits in students.
DMHSS’s library offers a soothing space where students can engross themselves in independent study, interact and share knowledge with their peers. The library has a collection of almost three thousand books of a varied
genre to help the students gather information for their academics while utilizing the resources for their recreation. The students look forward to their productive library hours, where they can experience things not taught in the four walls of the classroom.
Primary school library
Trained librarians take special care in developing reading habits in the pre-
primary and primary class students. Introducing them to the different types of books and engaging them in several activities to make their library hours fruitful is the main focus of our school. The activities done in the library classes are as follows-
The librarian selects engaging stories to read out to the students.
The students are encouraged to tell their own stories.
Playing quiz with them to keep them updated on the current affairs
Encouraging them in several fun activities which can build in them the love of book reading.
High school Library
The students in High school are encouraged to develop the skill of book reading and researching. The librarians take extra enthusiasm in making the students use their library hours wisely by giving them a varied option of
books, magazines, journals, etc.
Students are motivated to read books loudly.
Students learn to research materials that they can use for their academics.
Students are engaged in quiz activities and other discussion-oriented classes where they can share information with their peers.
School library-Rules and Regulations.
The students are to adhere to the library hours/classes to use the library.
Every student is issued a library membership car. Without the card, they are not allowed to borrow books or enter the library.
The library membership card is issued at the beginning of every session. Students have to submit it back before the Annual examination. Loss of the card must be brought to the librarian’s notice.
Books issued must be returned on the time-stamped on the date label.
The condition of the book issued must be checked before borrowing it. Any damage must be brought to the notice of the librarian. The borrower will be held responsible for any loss or defacement found.
